WHAT IS INCLUDED
- AWAKEN - incorporates a curated selection of the most scenic, authentic 3 to 4 hour gentle mountain hikes around Cape Town. Each hike has been pre-hiked and pre-planned and categorized:
Duration 3 to 4 hours
All the hikes are graded easy to moderate
All the hikes fall within distances of 4.5 to 8km
All the hikes fall within elevation gains/drops of 150 to 450 m
The hikes take place in a small group setting with maximum 8 participants and 1 expert registered mountain guide ensuring personal attention to all. The pace is managed to keep the group together ensuring no one gets lost or are left behind and that we don't go over the time.
The hikes are enriching and informative as our expert guides are knowledgeable about the fynbos vegetation, geology and history of the mountains and provide context during the hike about what it is you are hiking through. Passionate about mountains and fynbos, our guides gently, but actively bring guests' awareness into the hike, facilitating deeper connections with nature.
The hikes are all within a 5 to 100km radius from the center of Cape Town. The entire AWAKEN portfolio of 12 unique hikes includes a magnificent variety of hikes on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, on top of Table Mountain (ascent and descent via cable car), Silvermine Nature Reserve and Cape of Good Hope, Jonkershoek mountains, lower slopes of Helderberg and Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve.
The scenery includes mountain-ocean vistas, small forests, fynbos-clad hills, small mountain streams and sometimes waterfalls, also striking rock formations.
Prior to registering, each guest is assessed in terms of hike-readiness to ensure the package chosen matches their level and to ensure an enjoyable group hike where no-one falls behind.
Guests receive a detailed itinerary of each hike with detailed route description, what to bring, start time, where to meet etc. upfront, and a mountain safety card to take along.
Mountain safety is the number one priority. The expert guides are trained, qualified and registered adventure guides, specialising in hiking, trained at reducing and managing safety risks in mountains. They have level 3 First Aid qualifications and carry along a fully equipped First Aid Kit and Satellite Messenger Device as well as relevant contact numbers of Emergency Rescue Services.
