The India Venster hike offers the best of both worlds as it takes in views across the City Bowl and Table Bay, as well as of the Twelve Apostles and Camp's Bay's beautiful beaches as the trail ascends the iconic Table Mountain.

After hiking up some steep rock steps for about 20 to 30 minutes, the trail crosses a contour path before leading one further up and along an interesting, rocky mountain footpath through beautiful fynbos vegetation, with views across the city. Along the way we stop at the famous ‘India Venster’ chock stone ‘window‘ with its stunning photo opportunities. We follow the path until we reach a section where staples and chains are provided by which to climb up further along the route.  From here we head along the footpath towards the western ridge of the mountain where stunning views across the Twelve Apostle mountain range as it dips into the Atlantic Ocean, greet us. We stay at the bottom of the steep and awe-inspiring cliff face above us to our left as we head around and further up, approaching the ‘Table Top’ from behind. Once on top, there are fantastic photo opportunities as we walk along the edge of the cliff forming the ‘Table Top’, towards the upper Table Mountain Aerial Cableway station, the hike ending there. 

• DISTANCE - 3.1 km (add another 2.0 km if hiking down)

• ELEVATION GAIN - 710 m

• DIFFICULTY LEVEL - Intermediate to strenuous on-trail hike, mild exposure to heights and use of hands required to scramble up some rocks and staples

• STANDARD-PACED HIKE - Up to 4 hours is the standard duration for this hike. Add another 1.5 to 2 hours if hiking down. 

• SLOW-PACED HIKE - Guests preferring a slower pace, can book a 5 hour hike. Add another 1.5 to 2 hours if hiking down. 

• LOCATION - Cape Town, South Africa

• START/END - One-way hike, starts at lower Aerial Cableway station on Tafelberg Rd and ends at the upper Aerial Cableway station on top of Table Mountain, or if hiking down, then back on Tafelberg Rd.

Aerial Cableway tickets are not included and can be purchased at the upper Aerial Cableway station on the day. In the case the Aerial Cableway is closed, additional fees apply to hike down.
